Speaker Series

March 17, 2018 @ 11:00 am – 12:00 pm

The Speaker Series returns in March with author and artist, Alan Fitzpatrick. This talk centers on the previously untold number of white captives during the 18th century wars, who, once adopted by the major tribes, chose not to return to colonial society once given the chance to do so. I wrote the book with the help of the tribal archivist of the Wyandot Nation in Oklahoma, so the talk reveals the Native side of the story of the war years and deals specifically with many white men who were living and fighting alongside the Indians as adopted sons, such as Simon Girty, the most notable, and the role they played in campaigns, including the attack and siege of Fort Laurens.
