Revolutionary War School Day @ Fort Laurens Museum
May 3 @ 9:00 am – 3:00 pm

Join us for Revolutionary War School Day on Friday, May 3, 2019. This event is in partnership with Archbishop Hoban High School. This event focuses on Revolutionary War history with hands on curriculum based activities.

Station include:

  • Artillery
  • Musket Drills
  • Spy Activities
  • Rev War Medicine
  • and much more!

Special guests will include:

  • Benjamin Franklin
  • George and Martha Washington
  • General Lachlan McIntosh

This event is open to all public, private, and homeschool students. Admission is $5 per students. One adult admission is free per class or group. Additional adults are $5 each. Speaker Series- Benjamin Franklin

The Speaker Series returns on May 4, 2019 at 11am with Bill Robling giving a first person presentation of the life and times of Founding Father, Benjamin Franklin.

The Speaker Series is free and open to the public and will take place in the Fort Laurens Museum Auditorium.

Character Walk
May 4 @ 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Join us on a journey through history on our very first Character Walk to be held at Fort Laurens. Visitors will walk the grounds and encounter various characters associated with Fort Laurens including Simon Girty, John Gibson, and some famous Fort Laurens descendants. Admission is $10 per person which includes entrance to the museum. Tour will leave every 20 minutes from 1:00 – 4:00.

Characters will include: General Lachlan McIntosh, Major Vernon, John Heckewelder, Benjamin Franklin, and a famous Fort Laurens descendant.

The Speaker Series returns on May 18, 2019 at 11am with the Cleveland Museum of Natural History giving a presentation on what bones can tell us.

4th of July Ceremony
Jul 4 @ 11:00 am – 12:00 pm

Join us on July Fourth as we honor the sacrifice of those who lost their lives in the struggle for American Independence.

Event includes:

  • Color guard
  • Revolutionary War Honor Guard
  • Wreath laying ceremony for over 20 soldiers who lost their lives at Fort Laurens
  • Keynote Speaker

This event is free and open to the public and will take place at the Tomb of the  Unknown Patriot on the Fort Laurens grounds.

We are actively seeking Veterans and current military to help with the wreath laying portion of the ceremony.

History Day Camp for Kids

Travel back in time and explore the America of centuries past during History Camp at Historic Zoar Village and the Fort Laurens Museum! Each day, learn about a different period in American history, including the Revolutionary War and Canal life. Students will experience history hands on through engaging interactive demonstrations, participating in a day in the life of the Separatists of Zoar, and meeting the people who lived at the time. July 10 and 11 will take place in Zoar. July 12 will take place at Fort Laurens. Each day, camp beings at 1pm and ends at 4pm. Cost for the camp is $10 per child per day, or $25 for all three days and includes an afternoon snack. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 330-874-3011 or 1-800-262-6195. Reservations are due by July 5.

Revolution on the Tuscarawas Reenactment and Encampment

Ready, Aim, Fire! Travel back in time and spend a weekend at Fort Laurens during Revolution on the Tuscarawas: Revolutionary War Encampment and Reenactment. On Saturday, July 13, and Sunday, July 14, explore British and Continental camps, meet soldiers from both sides of the conflict, learn about colonial American life, and more! Kids can enjoy musket drills, colonial American games, and crafts throughout the event. Tours of Fort Laurens Museum and grounds will run both days. To close out each day, watch a mock battle for American Independence. Admission for the event is $10/for adults and $5 for children 12 & under. Hours for the event are Saturday 10 am -5 pm, and Sunday 10 am – 4 pm
